WOW! It has been quite a while since I last blogged!
I want to invite parents and caregivers with children 3-5 years of age to our weekly storyhour. It is every Wednesday at 10:30. We alternate English and Spanish every week, so that we can reach more children. We also have a new program for children under 5 years old. It is called "1000 Books Before Kindergarten." It is a program where parents read 1000 books to their child. It helps the child develop important pre-literacy skills, such as building a larger vocabulary, learning that text is read from left to right, learning to turn pages from front to back of book, recognizing that every letter makes a distinct sound, following plots and stories, and so much more!!!! All you have to do is come by the library to sign up. We will give you a binder to keep track of your reading. Your child will earn a prize at every 100 book milestone, 100, 200, 300, etc... Read more about it at http://www.calexicolibrary.org/programs/1K

The library is closed for inventory this week. Can you believe that we have to scan over 60,000 books in 6 workdays?! The other major job during inventory is to straighten out the library shelves after the dynamic 6-week Summer Family Reading Program. The books in the children's room all have to be alphabetized, since we just lump them together by the first initial of the author's last name during the summer. Inventory is intense---cause you get to work the whole day uninterrupted. There are no distractions--just WORK, WORK, WORK!!!
